The meaning of the spirit in Christ
(8) The meaning of the spirit in Christ
God made Adam by clay. The first human being is not a spiritual being, but a soul being. God made him a spiritual being in the garden of Eden and made a covenant.『And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.』(Genesis 2:7)
The first method is that God put Adam in the garden of Eden and he had to eat the fruit of the tree of life. The covenant at that time is the word to order that should not eat the fruit of the tree to know good and evil. Adam and Eve broke the covenant.
The second, God demanded the sacrifice to kill the sheep for the atonement. And he makes a covenant with man. It is that man believe the promise of seed in the future.『And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.』(Genesis 3:15) No one, except Noah and seven family members, believed. God made all but eight people to die in the flood.
Third, God gave the law to the people, and God forgave them sin through sacrifice when they sinned. The covenant is ritual to do the circumcision. Circumcision has two meanings, the death of the body and the promise seed in the future. But the people did not abandon sinfulness of the flesh while circumcising. God destroyed Israel.
The fourth was ritual to associate with Jesus Christ. This is baptism. God resurrects with spiritual bodies for those who are died with Jesus. The repentant can have this faith. Repentance is the way of self-denial. Repentance is abandoning greed. So the spirit, the image of God, shall be raised.
