Romans 6:6-7 『 Knowing this,
that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead
is freed from sin..』
It is the death of
the body of sin that the old man was nailed to the cross. The old man is a body
of sin. When the body of sin dies, the believer receives life from above and is
born again. This is salvation.
In John 3, a rabbi named Nicodemus visits Jesus
at night. He said, "You are sent by God and God is with you." Jesus
told him, “Unless you are born again of water and the
Spirit, you cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
Regarding water, some interpret it to mean
washing away sins, while others interpret it as being born in a mother's womb.
Water symbolizes that if we had lived in Noah's day, we would have died in the
water. Likewise, the old self, the body of sin, will die. The Apostle Paul
explains in 1 Corinthians 15:35-36 that the body of sin is dead and a new life
is born from heaven. 『But some man will say, How are the
dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou
sowest is not quickened, except it die:’, in 15:42-44, “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption;
it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory:
it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is
raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual
body.
The physical body dies and disappears like the
husk of a seed, but the hull of the seed has life and becomes a tree, so is the
resurrection. Resurrection means that the physical body dies and comes back to
life as a spiritual body. Almost everyone believes that Jesus' dead body comes
back to life and becomes a spiritual body. However, the dead body of Jesus
disappears in an instant, and a spiritual body appears. The point is the
spirit, not the body.
The Apostle Paul made a meaningful statement in
this regard in 15:51-52. 『Behold, I shew you a mystery; We
shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling
of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall
be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. In an instant, the dead body
disappears, and the spirit takes on a spiritual body. And living saints are
changed in the same way.
The first and last miracles of Jesus have the
same meaning. The first miracle happened at the wedding feast in Cana. changed
from water to wine. Most people believe that water turned into wine in an
instant. But the water disappeared and wine appeared. There are many people who
think that the heart before being born again is gradually changed into a holy
heart. Rebirth, like resurrection, means that the former is destroyed and is
reborn as a spirit body by the power of the Holy Spirit. Although the physical
body received from parents remains the same, they are reborn as an invisible
spirit body. So a battle of thoughts ensues. The mind of the flesh and the mind
of the spirit collide.
“What is born of the flesh is only flesh, and that which is born of
the Spirit is spirit.” This means that when you are
born with the spirit, the spirit comes to life. In John 6:63, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the
words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
When the
spirit puts on a spiritual body, it becomes life.
In John 3:14-15, “And as
Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be
lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal
life.” Jesus said When he said this to Nicodemus, he
left without saying any more.
If all human beings
had lived in the days of Noah, they would have disobeyed God and would have to
die. If we do not realize this, we have never repented. Disobedience is the
same as refusing to be freed from the greed to be like God. What happened in
the Garden of Eden is a picture that symbolically shows the events in the
kingdom of God.
In Mark 1:15, “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at
hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” The condition
of salvation is to repent and believe. It is said that believing in unbelief is
faith, but you must repent before you believe. Repentance is turning around. It
is turning away from the sin of greed. So we must die to sin. Jesus died on the
cross to save all sinners in the world. One time is enough. God took away the
sins of all men in Jesus. However, there are not many people who want to enter
into Jesus Christ. To enter into Christ, we must be united with Jesus Christ,
who died on the cross.
He who does not die to sin to the world is not repentant. If we do not
die to our sins to the world, of what use is it to confess that we are sinners
and to confess our sins in the world?
Do we become a new
person if we do not get rid of the root of sin and God takes away the fruit of
sin? The root of sin is the old man. The old man is one who does not die to sin
to the world.
Many church people
repent of their sins in the church, but unless the root of sin is dead, they
are prisoners of the law, and they continue to kill the Lamb to obtain
forgiveness of sins through its blood. There are two kinds of people who sit in
church. One group is those who die with Jesus, and the other group is those who
kill the Lamb, Jesus. They think that the blood of the Lamb must be smeared on
a daily basis. Still, they all repent and think they are saved. Those who kill
Jesus are those whose root of greed is alive. The saints receive the fruit from
heaven as a gift only when the root of greed is dead.
Church members are
sensitive to sin. They say that even if they become God's people, they cannot
but commit the sins of the world. So they think they should repent every day.
They say that every time we commit a sin we must repent and repent. But then do
they have a dying repentance to the world to sin? What is the use of repenting
with only the consequences of sin? If they sin, shouldn't the cause of sin be
removed? They are asking for forgiveness every day because they do not live
according to God's will. However, only the man and God will know whether they
are dead to the world or not. Those who have died with Jesus Christ are in
Christ.
In Romans 8:1, it
says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which
are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Those who are not dead to the world only accumulate the wrath of
God.
