Ten Commandments of the Old Testament and New Commandments of the New Testament
Ten Commandments of the Old
Testament and New Commandments of the New Testament
1. Ten Commandments of the Old Testament
The purpose of God giving the
Ten Commandments was “to teach the Israelites that
they were all sinners who had left God.” So this
means meeting the true God through the Ten Commandments.
First, Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
People in the world believe in God in their own way. Church people say
that the god they believe in is God, but is the God they think of really
Yahweh? God is not far away and comes to the Israelites in many ways. But the
people feared God. When Moses went to receive the Ten Commandments at Mount
Sinai, they made an idol of a golden calf and worshiped it as God. In this way,
people in the world worship the God they think of. Today, the same thing occurs
within the church. Everyone in the church believes in God, but unless they
become Emmanuel, they all believe in the God they think and want. This is an
idol. Immanuel means that God is with believers. God is not far away, but when
he enters the heart of the believer, he becomes Yahweh.
Second, Thou shalt not make
unto thee any graven image, or any
likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not
bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous
God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and
fourth generation of them that hate me;
People believe that God is the
one who helps them and gives them blessings. And they worship God and say that
He is Lord. The prophet Amos said that Yahweh had never received worship from
the Israelites. The one in the sky refers to following spiritual mysticism, the
one on the ground represents money, and the one in the sea symbolizes worldly
power. The Bible says not to worship for this. This is faith for receiving
blessings.
Third, Thou shalt not take
the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless
that taketh his name in vain.
Even though the Israelites do not know Yahweh, they call
God Father. God tells them that they are vain people. If a person calls “someone other than his father” as his father, he does not become
perfect. God thinks so too. Today, if a believer in a church calls God Father
without entering into Christ, it is vain.
Fourth, Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do
all thy work:But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work,
thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor
thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy
gates:
God makes the Israelites realize, “You are the ones who do not have the Sabbath.” That is why you must become the
Sabbath. This means that while they keep the Sabbath, they must realize that
they cannot keep it at all, and that beings living in the world do not have the
Sabbath. So they are told to look to the seed of promise (symbol of the
Sabbath) that will come in the future. Those who enter into Christ today become
those who have entered into the Sabbath.
Fifth, Honour thy father and
thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God
giveth thee.
People who live on this earth grow up with the protection and
love of their parents, and as they grow up, they think of their parents as
precious beings.
Of course, not everyone lives like this. However, in
general, the relationship between parents and children is a blood relationship
that cannot be artificially changed. Likewise, this is the case between parents
and children in this world, much less the relationship between God and humans.
This means thinking about God, your spiritual parent, just as you think about your
physical parents. So God teaches you that you are all beings who have left God.
Sixth, Thou shalt not kill.
The law is
the gospel of God given to discover Christ. However, if a person falls into
legalism, he or she becomes like a person who is bound by the letter of the law
and carries a heavy burden. The Israelites did that, and they even killed the
Messiah on the cross. Legalism is to be a spiritual murderer. This type of
legalism is rampant even within the church today. Church members study the Ten
Commandments every day and try not to commit sins by checking whether they
commit sins or not. If they commit a sin, they seek forgiveness through the
blood of Jesus. In addition, people who say that church buildings are temples,
people who still insist on tithing to force donations, and worship by creating
various feasts are rampant.
Seventh, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Adultery means spiritual adultery, and it appears that
one believes in God and also believes in Baal. They are people who believe in
the world and in God. These people were the Israelites, and they are prevalent
in the church today. The main reason for this is the false prophets within the
church. This is because they confuse church believers with humanism, legalism,
and gnosticism.
Eighth, Thou shalt not steal.
False prophets steal from God.
The Israelites must eat the food of truth, but they are
not allowed to eat it. Many false pastors today preach untruth like this. So,
false pastors become Satan's servants and take away their livelihood. For
example, they say that you will be saved if you just believe in Jesus. The
subject of faith is not what I believe, but the faith of Christ. The being “I” cannot be the subject of faith, and only the faith of
Christ can be the subject. Faith is the death and resurrection of the cross. So
salvation is dying with Jesus Christ. Besides faith, there are many wrong
things about repentance, resurrection, second coming, etc.
Ninth, Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy
neighbour.
Those who proclaim untruth are those who bear false
witness against their neighbors. These are abominations, and God will not
forgive them.
Tenth, Thou shalt not covet
thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Greed comes from the desire to be like God. That leads to
idolatry. When this greed takes root in a person's heart, he or she becomes the
master and thinks that everything in the world is his or hers.
2. New Testament;
new commandment
Most church people connect the two commandments with
the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament. The first commandment of the New
Testament is connected to the five commandments that correspond to the first
half of the Ten Commandments, and the second commandment of the New Testament
is connected to the five commandments that correspond to the second half of the
Ten Commandments. They simply make connections like this without even knowing
the meaning of the commandments given by God. The Ten Commandments teach that
the people are sinners who have left God, but Jesus' two commandments speak of
a life-giving resurrection. So the new commandment is not about sinners, but about
becoming a righteous man (the son of God).
In Matthew
22:35, a lawyer tested Jesus by asking him, “Master, which is the great
commandment in the law?”
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. T his is the first and great
commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as
thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” He said.
First,Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with
all thy mind.
Man, a sinner, is a being
who has left God. However, from a worldly perspective, the words to love God do
not suit sinners. Finding the lost lamb is God’s love. So, for humans to love God
means to return to God. This means that dying on the cross with Jesus Christ is
loving God. Only by denying one's self (old self: old soul) can the spirit in
the darkness shine. This is loving God. That is why the soul is born from
heaven. In other words, the spirit takes off the old soul and changes into the
clothes of Christ (new soul). This is what resurrection looks like. The old
soul suffocates the spirit, but the new soul revives the spirit. Resurrection,
as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:44-45, is when the physical body received from
one's parents dies and one takes on a spiritual body received from heaven.
Second,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Through God's mercy, saints
were united with Jesus Christ, were saved, and were resurrected. Saints must
also save the souls of others. So the spirit can receive light. Salvation is
the salvation (resurrection) of the soul.
The soul that has changed
into new clothes is combined with the spirit and becomes saved. In 1 Peter 1:9,
“Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”
