He is the one who tells you the way to salvation
He is the one who
tells you the way to salvation
Acts 16:16-17
"As we were going to the place of prayer, a slave girl with a spirit of
divination met us, who brought her owners a great deal of money by
fortune-telling. She followed Paul and us, shouting, 'These men are servants of
the Most High God, who tell you the way to salvation.'"
"The situation that put
Paul and Silas in trouble" begins with a slave girl they met on their way
to a place of prayer. "This slave girl who was possessed by a demon and a fortuneteller"
lived a pitiful life, being taken advantage of by her evil masters. And that
evil master followed them and shouted at them to hinder their ministry.
Paul was so stressed that he
turned around and commanded the evil spirit that was tormenting the slave girl
in the name of Jesus Christ. The "possessed slave girl speaking about
Paul" was to instill in people that she was on the same level as Paul,
because the possessed slave girl had the power of fortune telling and made
money through it.
The demon comes out
immediately and the poor demon-possessed slave girl is cleansed in the name of
Jesus. But there is a problem. The masters who profit from the demon-possessed
slave girl. The phrase “the
masters of the slave girl”
shows that there are more than one master who profit from this poor
demon-possessed slave girl.
When the owners of this
slave girl saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas
and dragged them into the marketplace to the magistrates, where they accused
them before the authorities. Paul, who knew that the situation would become
complicated, was greatly distressed, and when he could no longer bear it, he
exorcised the demon.
The crowd rose up together
and accused Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped of
their clothes and beaten with rods. After beating them severely, they gave
special orders to the jailer to keep them safe. Paul and Silas were not just
thrown into prison, but into the inner prison, and their feet were also
fastened in the stocks.
That night, in the
pitch-black prison, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and
the prisoners were listening. While they were singing and praying, there was a
great earthquake. The foundations of the prison shook, all the doors flew open,
and the strong chains that bound Paul and Silas and all the others fell away.
The guards were asleep, but
when they saw the prison doors wide open and their chains loosened, they were
about to kill themselves, since they were already dead. But Paul cried out with
a loud voice, “Here
we are!”
The guard knelt before Paul and Silas, who were in chains, and cried out,
Acts 16:29-32 “Then the
jailer called for lights and rushed in. He fell trembling before Paul and
Silas. Then he brought them out and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do
to be saved?’ But they said to him, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus (pistusson epi ton kuirión Jesus), and
you will be saved—you and your household.’ And they spoke to him and all who were in his house the word of the
Lord (ho logos).’”
The
jailer began to fear God. When he saw the prison doors open, he realized that
Paul and Silas were men of God. At that time, the jailer did not fear the Roman
Empire, but God. He trembled in fear of God who was with Paul. Those who repent
fear only God.
So Paul said,
"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." "Pistuson epi
(English on) ton kyrión Jesus πίστευσον ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον Ἰησοῦν" means "Believe in the Lord Jesus who is above (the kingdom
of God)."
In the Lord Jesus
(Ton Curion Jesus τὸν κύριον Ἰησοῦν), Curion (Kurios), translated as Lord, is a
translation of the Hebrew Adonai, which is translated as the Lord in the
English Bible. And the Hebrew Yahweh, translated as Jehovah, is translated as
The LORD.
Ton kurio Yesu (τὸν κύριον Ἰησοῦν) if translated again, is Jehovah Jesus. It means to believe in Jehovah
Jesus. God revealed His name to Moses, saying, I AM (haya asher haya), but in
later times the Jews called Him Yahweh. That means God's name is Yahweh. In the
Acts of the Apostles, Yahweh (Jehovah) is Jesus. Since Jesus' name is Jehovah,
and Jehovah is God's name, Jehovah's name is also Jesus. In other words, the
name Jesus is Jehovah. Baptizing in the name of Jesus and healing the sick
means that this is what Jehovah does.
Matthew 1:21-23 “And she will bring
forth a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, for He will save His
people from their sins.” Now all this took
place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Behold,
the virgin will conceive and bear a Son, and they will call His name Immanuel,” which
means, “God with us.”
Jesus, in the name of
Jehovah, was the very embodiment of God, but he wanted to be called the Son of
God, because he had to die on the cross for the salvation of the world.
Church members call
Jesus the Son of God. God the Father wants Jesus to be the Son. If Jesus
becomes God, it means that he is stabbing himself. Jesus' death is God's
justice that judges sin. If believers call Jesus God, they are hindering God's
justice. God's will is "to save sinners through the Son, not to show that
Jesus is God."
God predestined
Christ before the creation of the world, and Christ died on the cross according
to plan, was resurrected, ascended to heaven, and returned to the hearts of the
saints. For the saints, the return of Jesus has already occurred. However,
Christ will return to the world at the end to judge the unbelievers. And when
the end of the world comes, Jesus will return to the place of Jehovah.
Church members are
confusing the definition of God by saying that God is one, but God is a
Trinity.
