Question 58. How can we be made partakers of the benefits that Christ has obtained?

Answer. We are made partakers of the benefits that Christ has obtained, especially by the application of these benefits to us by the work of the Holy Spirit.

As believers are united with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross, they participate in the benefits of the grace that Christ has obtained. Romans 6:3-5 Or do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried with him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be united with him in the likeness of his resurrection.

When the saint believes that he was resurrected with Jesus, a temple is established in the saint's heart by the power of the Holy Spirit, and when Jesus returns and enters that temple and dwells there, Jesus becomes the master of the saint, and the saint becomes Jesus' servant. They become possessed by God. When this happens, the saint becomes heaven. Heaven can be spoken of as the kingdom of God in the soul, the restored Garden of Eden, the third heaven, the restored image of God, etc. Jesus also gives his saints various gifts necessary to spread the gospel, protects their lives, and guides them.
