Those whose old temple disappears and a new temple is built in their hearts
Those whose old temple disappears and a new temple is built in their hearts
Revelation 6:12-14 『And I beheld
when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and
the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And
the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her
untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as
a scroll when it was rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved
out of their places.』
The
Bible also expresses salvation in terms of creation. It does not express the
creation of the universe, but rather expresses the establishment of the kingdom
of God in the heart as a new creation. 2 Corinthians 4:6 『For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath
shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in
the face of Jesus Christ.』 In 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become
new.』
Ephesians 2:10 states, “For we are his workmanship, created
(κτισθέντες)
in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them.”
Christentes (κτισθέντες)
is a creature. Colossians 3:10 says, “And have put on the new man, which is renewed in
knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
The opposite concept
of salvation is judgment. It goes from creation to decreation and then to
re-creation. Decreation is the concept of judgment.' Words appear about the
earth loosening and the universe collapsing. We can view the judgment that
occurs in Israel's history as a decimation. The Bible contains stories of the
sun, moon, and stars becoming dark, heavenly bodies shaking, and blood pouring
out. If there is decreation, then new creation occurs. Looking into the hearts
of believers, when the old self collapses, a new person is created.
The contents
of Revelation 6:12-14 refer to God's judgment. Similar contents are found in
the prophets. In Isaiah 13:10-13, “As my hand hath found the kingdoms
of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of
Samaria; Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to
Jerusalem and her idols? Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord
hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish
the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high
looks his. For he said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my
wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have
robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:』 This story
means that God will judge Babylon.
Isaiah 34:4-5『And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall
be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf
falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. For my sword
shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the
people of my curse, to judgment.』This content is that
God is judging Edom.
Ezekiel 32:6-8 『I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest,
even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee. And when I shall
put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will
cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light. All the
bright lights of heaven will I make darkness over thee, and set darkness upon
thy land, saith the Lord GOD.』These words are a
prophecy of judgment on Egypt.
God's
judgment mainly concerns the foreign countries that attacked Israel. Likewise,
we must interpret the Book of Revelation like the prophets. Those who received
John's letter at the time were A.D. They are church people who lived in the 1st
century. The Book of Revelation is linked to passages throughout the Bible
starting from Genesis, but is especially directly linked to the Olivet
Discourse in Matthew 24. Matthew 24 is about the judgment of the temple in
Jerusalem. The contents are as if the heavenly bodies are changing and the power
of heaven is shaking. It depicts the destruction of the temple, not the
destruction of the natural world. In other words, it is a decreation.
Looking at Matthew 24:19-33, 『And woe unto
them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
But pray ye that your flight be not in the
winter, neither on the Sabbath day: or then shall be great tribulation, such as
was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
And except those days should be shortened,
there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be
shortened.
Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo,
here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
For there shall arise false Christs, and
false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it
were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you
before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go
not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the
lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so shall also
the coming of the Son of man be. For wherever the carcase is, there will the
eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days
shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars
shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then
shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the
tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the
clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with
a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the
four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Now learn a parable of the fig
tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that
summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it
is near, even at the doors.』
It is a
movement from the stone temple to the kingdom of God in the hearts of
believers. So, in the heart, the old temple, the old man (the first man, Adam),
collapses, and the new temple, the new man (the last man, Adam), appears. The
old man is judged and a new man is created.Judgment leads to salvation that is
recreated in this way. Repentance is included here.
In Joel 2:10, “The earth
shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall
be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:』
In chapter 2
verses 28-32, “And it shall come to pass afterward, that
I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters
shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see
visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I
pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth,
blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.
And it shall come to pass, that whoever shall call on the name of the LORD
shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as
the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.』 Chapter 3
verses 15-16 『The sun and the moon shall be darkened,
and the stars shall withdraw their shining. He LORD also shall roar out of
Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall
shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the
children of Israel.』 This is a scene where God
prophesies judgment on Judah’s enemies on
the “Day of the Lord.” The Bible
says that those who repent during judgment will be saved.
The Bible
verses about “the day of the Lord” are as follows: In Amos 5:18-20, “Woe unto you that desire the day of the
LORD!” to what end is it for you? the day of the
LORD is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear
met him; or he went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a
serpent bit him. Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even
very dark, and no brightness in it?』 There are several
verses in Isaiah about the Day of the Lord. This means that the day of Jehovah
will be salvation for God's people, but if not, it will be judgment. It is also
said in Jeremiah chapter 30 and Zephaniah chapter 1.
Israel has
been waiting for the day of the Lord. That day is the day of vindication to
defeat the enemies. However, the prophet Amos prophesied that that day would
actually be a day of judgment for Israel. Judgment and salvation appear
together in the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. In the end, the day of Jehovah is
primarily a day of judgment and a day of salvation for the remnant.
On the day
of Pentecost, Peter declared that the words of Joel had been fulfilled. Acts
2:16-21 『But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall
come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all
flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men
shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and
on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall
prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth
beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: The sun shall be turned into
darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord
come:』 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall
call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Apostle Paul
connected the Day of Jehovah with the death (judgment) and resurrection
(salvation) of Jesus Christ on the cross. Peter connects the loss of light of
the sun, moon, and stars with Pentecost (the day the Holy Spirit came). The
Book of Revelation explains in these terrifying terms “the
destruction of the old temple and the transfer of the kingdom of God to the
church.” Likewise, the old temple (old person)
collapses in the believer's heart and the new temple (new person) emerges. Physical
Israel is judged through the law, and spiritual Israel is brought to salvation
through the gospel.
『And, lo, there
was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the
moon became as blood;』 In Matthew 21:19, “And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he
came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said to it, Let no
fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever.” And
presently the fig tree withered away.』 Here, the fig tree
represents Israel and becomes a story about judgment. The sun, moon, and stars
represent the old covenant. It also symbolizes the Jewish leader. The leader
was in charge of the law, and the law became a light for the Israelites at that
time. The loss of light means that the authority of Jewish leaders has
declined. Because the Jewish leaders rejected the Messiah, God is opening a new
era. This is a scene of a change from the era of the law to the era of the
gospel (new heaven).
『And the stars of
heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when
she is shaken of a mighty wind.』 About heaven, Isaiah
51:13-15 『And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath
stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast
feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he
were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? The captive
exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit,
nor that his bread his should fail. But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the
sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of hosts is his name.』 The sky symbolizes Israel. In Genesis, heaven also symbolizes the
law. This means that this old sky will disappear. In 2 Peter 3:12-13, “Looking for and hasting unto the coming of
the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the
elements shall melt with fervent heat?”
Stoikeia (στοιχεῖα base form
stoikeion) appears in Galatians 4:3. 『Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage
under the elements of the world:』 Elementary school is
Stoicion. The same expression is found in Colossians 2:8. The elementary
sciences are the law, the old covenant, and the old people. These are destroyed
and lead to new creation. So, it becomes the gospel of Christ, the new heaven,
and the new person. Peter is saying that we should not remain at the beginner
level of the gospel. This means that the old disappears like a substance is dissolved,
and the new appears. The process of going beyond elementary studies is when the
old self disappears and a new person, a new temple, appears in the believer's
heart.
『And every
mountain and island were moved out of their places..』In
Matthew 21:21, Jesus answered and said unto the m, Verily I say unto you, If ye
have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig
tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou
cast into the sea; It shall be done.』 This verse is
preceded by a curse on the fig tree, followed by this verse. The Bible says
that the disappearance of the old temple and the emergence of the new temple
are like moving a mountain. The mountain symbolizes the place where God is
present. The mountain goes to the sea. It looks like a mountain floating in the
sea. The sea is also the object of salvation for strangers. It expresses the
movement of salvation from Jews to Gentiles. The temple depicting the mountain
moves to the sea (the Gentiles).
Hebrews 12:26-28 『Whose voice then shook the
earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shook not the earth
only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifies the removing of
those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things
which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receive a kingdom which cannot
be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence
and godly fear:』 Saints receive the unshakable kingdom
of God.
