Question 103. What is the first commandment?

Answer: The first commandment is, Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

People of the world worship gods in their own names. The reason people create gods is because of fear and securing food, the source of life. At the time of the Exodus, Egypt had their own gods for the ten plagues. The reason they harbor other gods in their hearts is because they seek out objects in the environment that affects their lives. Even today, superstitions are prevalent. When they go to the sea, they seek the god of the sea, when they go to the mountains, they seek the god of the mountain, when they go to thunder or lightning, they seek and rely on the god who can protect them from war, and the god who gives them abundance and blessings.

The one and only God is the self-existent One, but in ancient Israel, the Jews called Him Adonai, Yahweh, and each country translated Him by different names, but depending on what kind of God He is, they distinguish Him as the one and only God or another god.

The other gods that people believe in are the God who gives blessings and saves them from the fear of death. The God that the Israelites believe in is the God who made a covenant with Abraham and made those who believed in the covenant become God's people. Therefore, they believe that God is the God who protects and blesses the people.

However, Abraham's descendants are divided into Ishmael and Isaac, and Ishmael's descendants also believe that the Allah they believe in is the true God. They also claim to be in the covenant with God. The descendants of Israel (Jacob) and the descendants of Ishmael say to each other that the God they believe in is the true God.

However, after Jesus Christ came to the world as the Messiah, he declared that he was the Son of God and that no one could come to God except through him, so all Gods other than God through Jesus Christ became other Gods.

Because God wants all the sinners in the world to repent and turn back through His Son, and become the sons of God.

Furthermore, today, most Christian groups create the Trinity and say that Jesus Christ is God, and believe in this. They also believe in another God.

The true God is the God whom Jesus Christ calls Father. That God is the God who saves you through my Son Jesus Christ, even though you are humans who should die on the cross. All those who do not call God Father through the Son of God Jesus Christ believe in another God.
