Question 19: How can we know this?
Question 19: How can we know this?
Answer: The Scriptures tell me. God revealed the
gospel in the Garden of Eden, then proclaimed it through the holy patriarchs
and prophets, symbolically demonstrated it through the ceremonies of the law
and sacrifices, and finally fulfilled it through his beloved Son.
The Bible reveals various revelations about Jesus Christ. The first
revelation is about garments of skin. Genesis 3:21 states, "The Lord God
made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them."
The Hebrew word for
leather garment is kotnot, meaning "clothing" (kotnot) of leather
('or). The word 'or' in Leviticus 1:6 refers to a piece of flesh. The garment
corresponds to the skin of a burnt offering. Leviticus 1:6 says, "He shall
skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces." The word 'or' in 'leather
garment' (flesh and leather) means to avoid nakedness.
Nakedness is the flesh, and it is also where the spirit is imprisoned.
The imprisonment of the spirit refers to the spirits of the angels who sinned
in the kingdom of God being imprisoned. All who are cast into the world are
spiritually naked. All humans, inherited from the first man, Adam, are like
this. Therefore, to avoid their nakedness, they are clothed.
The flesh believers received from the first man, Adam, contains traces
of God's promise of salvation (the offspring of the woman), but people fail to
realize it. God is still sending a message of salvation to all people in this
world.
In the word "leather garments"
(koternot כָּתְנֹ֥ות), the garments are
long. They refer to the linen robes worn by priests. In the New Testament, they
are called the garments of Christ. The word "leather" (or עֹ֖ור) means to be stripped naked. Jesus Christ is depicted as being
stripped naked. It symbolizes the garments of Christ that are clothed through
His death. The one who makes and clothes garments is Elohim.
Leather
comes from animals. It is used for tents. The covering for the tent is called
Ori. Leather is made with the premise of death. Someone dies. Therefore,
leather clothing symbolizes the Passover lamb. Jesus is the shepherd of the
sheep. Jeremiah 50:6 says, "My people are lost sheep; their shepherds have
led them astray, they have turned them back on the mountains; they have
wandered from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place."
Genesis 3:21 says, "The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam
and his wife and clothed them." This means that the woman, wearing a
garment of skin (Christ's garment), becomes Eve and gains life. Thus, she
becomes the mother of a living being who gives birth to life. Galatians 3:27
says, "For all of you who have been baptized into Christ have clothed
yourselves with Christ."
The second
revelation is in Genesis 3:15, where God speaks of a covenant regarding the
woman's offspring: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and
between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike
his heel." The serpent symbolizes Satan. The woman's offspring are those
who possess the promised seed (Christ), while the serpent's offspring are those
who do not possess the promised seed.
God made a promise
to the spirits he sends to this earth. While all spirits are born into this
world with flesh from the first man, Adam, the offspring of the woman will
escape the power of Satan and find salvation through the last Adam. A fierce
spiritual war will rage between the offspring of the woman and the offspring of
the serpent. The offspring of the woman are those who possess the seed of
promise. They come to this world to fulfill their own righteousness, only to
realize its impossibility and await the coming of Christ. However, the
offspring of the serpent are those who continue to strive for their own
righteousness on this earth. They are said to cause the offspring of the woman
to stumble.
The way the
serpent's offspring causes the woman's offspring to stumble is by distorting
the Bible or using worldly things. Therefore, those living in the world,
deceived by the serpent, will be unable to recognize who the serpent's
offspring is. To realize that you are being deceived by the serpent, you must
confirm your own abiding in Christ. Those who are in Christ have renounced
their own righteousness. If you think and act as if you can do anything, you
are outside of Christ.
And the revelation
of the Bible continued through the prophets. Micah 5:2 prophesied that the Son
would be born in Bethlehem. Isaiah 7:14 also speaks of a virgin birth. Psalm 22
also prophesied to David that he would suffer on the cross. Psalm 16 also
speaks of Jesus' resurrection.
Genesis 14:18
says, "Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was
priest of the Most High God." Hebrews 7 says that this Melchizedek is
Jesus, meaning that Abraham met Jesus. Abraham gave a tenth to King
Melchizedek.
In Genesis
16:7-10, the Angel of the Lord refers to Jehovah. This is because in "I
will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too numerous to
count," "I" refers to Jehovah. In Genesis 16:13, "Hagar
called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, 'You are the God who sees me,'
for she said, 'Behold, I have seen a God who sees me.'" This is because
the name refers to Jehovah God. Genesis 18 also depicts Jehovah God conversing
with Abraham.
John also said
that Jesus existed in the Old Testament era. John 1:1 says, "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
The Word became flesh, Jesus Christ.
John the Baptist
says the same thing. In John 1:15, it says, "John bore witness about him.
He cried out, 'This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks higher
than me, because he was before me.'" (He was before). Hebrews 11:24-26
says that Moses met Christ.
After his
resurrection, in Luke 24:27, while Jesus was walking along the road and talking
with two of his disciples, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them in
all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”
He is referring to
Jesus Christ. And he is saying the same thing in chapter 24, verse 44, on the
shore of the Sea of Galilee: "These are the
words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things written
about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be
fulfilled." This means that the one called "I" is Jesus Christ.
In short, it means that Jehovah God of the Old Testament era revealed Jesus
Christ.
In John 5:39,
Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you
have eternal life; and it is they that testify about me.” This means that the Old
Testament is talking about Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 34:16
reads, "Seek now in the Book of the LORD and read. Not one of these will
be missing, not one will lack its mate, for the mouth of the LORD has commanded
it, and his Spirit has gathered them together." The Book of the LORD
refers to the Old Testament. If you read the entire Bible, you will see that
Jehovah God is Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is difficult to understand this fact
by reading only parts of the Bible.
