Question 111: What does God require of you in this commandment?
Question 111:
What does God require of you in this commandment?
Answer: To do my
best for the good of my neighbor, to treat others as I would have them treat
me, and to work diligently to help the poor.
The falsehoods spread by false prophets
steal from God. The Israelites need to eat the true bread of truth, but they
preach falsehoods, preventing them from doing so. Many false pastors today
preach such falsehoods. This is why false pastors rob them of their very
lifeblood. For example, they say, "Just believe in Jesus and you will be
saved." But it's not about believing, it's about entering into the faith
of Christ. I, as an individual, cannot be the subject of faith; only Christ's
faith can. Faith is the death and resurrection of the cross. Therefore,
salvation is only possible if one's faith presupposes dying with Jesus Christ.
Beyond faith, they also spread various falsehoods about repentance,
resurrection, and the second coming.
Believers must correct distorted biblical
passages and accurately convey God's word. Failure to do so will result in
misleading others. Pastors and elders who preach based on doctrine today must
carefully examine whether their sermons are in accordance with the Bible. The
church community is in danger amidst the rampant legalism, superstition, and
gnosticism. It is incredibly difficult for believers to discern false pastors.
