Question 34: What is the meaning of the word "Christ" that follows?
Answer: Jesus' work is better described by this title. It means that he was anointed by God the Father to be appointed as king, priest, and prophet.
Matthew 22:41-45 also says, “When the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, ‘What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?’
They answered, ‘The son of David.’ He said to them, ‘How then does David, inspired by the Spirit, call him ‘Lord,’ saying, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet’’? Since David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”
Christ means savior. The Lord is Adonai in Hebrew, Kyrius in Greek, and The LORD in English. While the word "Lord" might generally be thought of as meaning "master," Adonai is Jehovah. Adonai was originally called Yahweh, and in translation into English it was rendered as The LORD. Therefore, to say that Christ is Lord means that Christ is Jehovah.
Jehovah God, through the spirit of the fallen angel, predestined Christ (The Lord) to go down into the dust of the earth and become the first human being. He then put him to sleep (death: a type of the cross), separated him into male and female, and gave each human being a physical body. Thus, God pours the spirit of the fallen angel into the bodies of the newly born humans.
However, as He had predestined, God Himself was born as the last man, Adam (a type of resurrection), and gave spiritual bodies (resurrection: Christ's garments) to those who repent, opening the way for them to return to the kingdom of God.
Christ, born into the world to fulfill the covenant of atonement, signifies Jesus, who must die on the cross. He came to the world as the first man, Adam, and gave humanity a body destined for death. He had the mission of atonement for the body of sin. That is why Jesus said, "It is all finished" on the cross.
