Sell all that he has, and buy that field
Matthew
(13:44)『Again, the kingdom of heaven is like
unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and
for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.』 In connection with this word, people may misunderstand that they can
buy heaven by selling everything they have. When the disciples asked Jesus,
"Why does the Lord speak in parables"? 『He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know
the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.』
It is to
conceal it to some people and inform others. The Bible speaks of the hidden
object in Matthew (13: 14-15).『And in
them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall
hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not
perceive: For this people's heart is waxed
gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed;
lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and
should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal
them. 』
Those who
realize the mysteries of heaven that Jesus has spoken are those who realize
that they are sinners and repent. Thus only tax collectors and sinners who
desire the mercy of God are those who realize the mysteries of heaven. The
Pharisees try to show their righteousness, and they become unaware of the mysteries
of heaven. The Apostle Paul also realized the secret of heaven. He met Jesus in
the light at Damascus. And he went up to the third heaven directly and heard a
secret from God.
The secret is
what is said in Acts (26: 17-18).『Delivering
thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them
from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they
may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are
sanctified by faith that is in me. 』 The
apostle Paul explains this in Ephesians (3: 6) again.『That the Gentiles should be
fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: 』
The apostle Paul also
tells this mystery in Romans (11: 25-26).『For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest
ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel
shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion
the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:』
This is mentioned in
Isaiah (49:6).『And he said, It is a
light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel:
I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my
salvation unto the end of the earth. 』
God chose
Israel because Israel is a model of the world. It means that all nations see
and learn from Israel. To save the Gentiles is God's secret already established
before creation. So God first chose Israel to carry out this mystery. Jonah
went to Nineveh to preach the gospel of repentance, and the Bible book of Ruth
gives a glimpse of Gentile salvation. Through visions and revelation, God tells
the Apostle Peter to preach the gospel to the Gentiles in Acts 10: 11-16. In
particular, Paul speaks in Acts (10: 12-13).『Wherein were all manner
of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and
fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 』
The Bible says in
Matthew (13:31).『Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of
heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his
field: 』
The Bible says,
"Heaven is like a mustard seed." A man planted a mustard seed in his
field. Man is God. Heaven is Jesus Christ. And his field represents Israel.
When Jesus comes to Samaria, there is a scene where she talks with a Samaritan
woman. The Bible says in John (4:22).『Ye worship
ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews..』 The mustard seed grew into a large tree, and the birds of the air
dwelled. These flying birds in the air are the ones Peter saw in vision. The
bird means the Gentiles. Jesus Christ was born in Israel, but Gentiles enter
the kingdom of God first.
The Bible says in
Matthew (13:33).『Another parable spake he
unto them; The
kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three
measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 』 Heaven is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the leaven. Woman means the
bride of Christ. The Bible says in Ephesians (5: 31-32).『For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a
great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the
church. 』 Wife means church. The church members go out into the world to spread
the gospel of Christ. Powder compares the world. This means that the gospel is
preached and spread to the Gentiles.
『Again, the
kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man
hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath,
and buyeth that field.』(Matthew 13:44). Here
too, the kingdom of heaven is Jesus Christ. Because heaven is like treasure,
Jesus is treasure. But treasures are hidden in the field. The field is the
world (or Israel). The field is called Agros in Greek. There is cultivated and
uncultivated land. The cultivated field means Israel, the uncultivated land
means the world.
The Bible says in
Mark (12:1).『And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and
set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower,
and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. 』 Vineyard means Israel. So one man is God. The Bible speaks in Luke
(14:16).『 Then said he unto
him, A certain
man made a great supper, and bade many:』 Man is God.
The Bible says in
Luke (13: 6).『He spake also this
parable; A
certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought
fruit thereon, and found none.』 One is God, and the
fig tree means Israel.
After man discovered
it, he hid it, rejoiced, and went back, and God found it, saying that he had
planned Jesus Christ before the creation of the world. The fact that God hid
the treasure (Christ) in the field (Israel) meant that Jesus Christ was hidden
by the nation of Israel that had inherited from Abraham. It was hidden in the
law (the law of wrath). The law is the elementary teacher who leads to Christ.
By the way, “Sell all your possessions and buy the field.” There are those who say that many can sell their possessions and
buy heaven. But nothing in the world can live in heaven. If you say so, you do
not know the meaning in the parable. The meaning of God's selling of his
possession is that Jesus Christ is put to death. This is redemption. Redemption
is that God buys sinners by the blood of Jesus Christ for those who repent. So
God buys the field (the Gentile in the world) with the blood.
