If I say the truth, why do ye not believe
(John 8: 45-59)
And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
To abide in the words of Jesus means to enter into a personal intimate fellowship with Jesus, which is not a one-off, but a constant. It is easy to think of being a disciple of Jesus as being done only by an act. The Jews thought so. They had the law, and they tried to keep the things the law required. But it had nothing to do with God.
They thought they had the word of God, but they said that they kept the word, and they tried to kill Jesus, who is the Word. They should have convicted of sin and found Christ through the law, but they couldn't. The Word is Jesus Christ. To follow the Word means to dwell in Jesus Christ. It means dying with Jesus Christ. The same goes for the truth. The Jews could not understand Jesus as the truth. So, they strongly opposed Jesus' words. They thought that they were the only people in the world who had God's chosen people who kept the truth, that is, the law, and they were confident that they were not only aware of the truth, but were also enjoying freedom. With zeal to keep that truth, he tried to kill Jesus, who is the truth. The truth is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the lifeless. (John 14:6)
The Jews regarded Jesus as a prophet, who seemed practically insignificant. It is said that Jesus had existed before Abraham, so how old are the Pharisees? The name of God in the Old Testament is Jehovah God. It means that Jehovah is Jesus. However, the reason the Jews tried to kill Jesus was that they could not admit that Jesus was God.
In Hebrews 11:24-26, it is said that Moses met Christ. After Jesus' resurrection, while on the road in Luke 24:27, while talking with two disciples, he said, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 』He speaks of Jesus Christ. And at the Sea of Galilee, it says the same thing in 24:44, "And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 』It means that the person who calls me is Jesus Christ After all, it means that the Lord God in the Old Testament is Jesus Christ.
Jesus said in John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 』Here the Bible refers to the Old Testament. What the Old Testament is talking about is the story of Jesus Christ. See ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them in Isaiah 34:16. The book of Jehovah speaks of the Old Testament. If you read all the Bibles, you can see that Jehovah God is Jesus Christ.
