(Matthew 1:18-20)Now the birth of Jesus Christ was
on this wise: When as his mother Mary was
espoused to Joseph, before they came together,
she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her
husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was
minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the
angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David,
fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife:
for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
The Bible says that
Mary was engaged to Joseph. At that time, an engagement was like a marriage and
was legally binding. That is, the engagement was a de facto marriage that could
never be broken except for adultery. That is why Joseph and Mary are introduced
in the Bible as husband Joseph and her wife Mary. The engagement period was
approximately one year. If the husband dies during that time, her wife becomes
a widow. Even if they didn't live together, it was the same as being married.
Therefore, if they committed infidelity during that time, they would be
considered adultery and could be punished with death. In Deuteronomy, there is
a law stating that if a woman commits infidelity, she must be stoned to death.
Being conceived and born by
the Holy Spirit means a different creation from the creation of humans
described in Genesis 1. In Genesis 2:7, “And the LORD God formed man of
the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and
man became a living soul.”
Adam was born like this. However, Eve was born differently. 『And
the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept : and he took
one of his ribs his, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD
God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” (Genesis 2:21-22) Eve was
born through Adam. Since Eve was separated from Adam (the first man), who was
originally one, Adam became a man. The birth of Jesus is like Adam, as God
breathed life into the dust. Jesus was conceived and became the last Adam
because the Holy Spirit entered Mary's body.
Likewise, those who
are born again are born again through Jesus Christ. No one can be reborn except
Jesus, who is the firstfruits of the resurrection. So, the Bible says that Adam
is a type of Christ. Originally, Adam and Eve were one. Likewise, Christ and
the spirit that was confined in man apart from Christ were one. That is why
Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother,
and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Paul
compared the relationship between Christ and the church to that of husband and
wife. To be born again is to become one with the risen Christ. This can be done
through the power of the Holy Spirit. Only those who believe in the power of
the Holy Spirit can believe in being conceived by the Holy Spirit.
It can be said that the body
of Jesus, conceived and born of the Holy Spirit, is the body that has endowed
the human body with divinity. Although he was born in the form of a sinner, he
performed many miracles and showed amazing power. Jesus had a physical body
like other people. But the power of God was at work in him. (Matthew 17:1-2) 『And
after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth
them up into an high mountain apart,And was transfigured before them: and his
face did shine as the sun , and his raiment was white as the light..” However, when Jesus died and
rose again, he became a spiritual body, not a physical body. After Jesus was
resurrected, he appeared suddenly or through a wall.
Jesus came into this world to raise dead
spirits. John 6:63 “It
is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I
speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” People do not understand very well
about spirit, soul, and body. In Ecclesiastes 12:7, "Then shall the dust
return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave
it." In Genesis 3:19, “In
the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground;
for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou
return.
In 1 Corinthians 15:44, “It is sown a natural
body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a
spiritual body.” A spiritual body means a body that contains the spirit. In 2 Corinthians
5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were
dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in
the heavens.” Our tent house means the flesh. do. The eternal home in heaven means
the spirit body. If we do not put on the body of the spirit, which is the house
that comes from heaven, we become naked.
