(Matthew 25:1-13) " Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Jewish weddings are known to last for about a week. The groom comes to the bride's house, and the bride's friends wait with him. After the wedding and the birth of a son at the bride's house, they go to the groom's father's house. Biblically, when Jesus Christ comes as the bridegroom into the saint's heart, the saint becomes his wife and returns to her father's house (the temple in the heart).
The five foolish virgins symbolize those who did not enter the heavenly banquet and therefore did not enter the kingdom of God. All ten virgins dozed off. This is not a matter of working hard or not working hard in the work of the church. The saying, “Don’t fall asleep and stay awake,” does not mean, “Don’t be lazy” in the work of the church.
When the five foolish virgins woke up with the news that the bridegroom was coming, they had no oil. She said to the five wise virgins, “Please borrow oil,” and they did not give it to the five foolish virgins, saying, “We do not have enough oil.” Instead, she said, “Go to the seller and buy it.” So they went to buy oil and when they came back, they found the door closed.
The reason the five foolish virgins could not enter the city was because they did not have enough oil. So the Bible tells us to stay awake. Oil and being awake are connected. The words “stay awake” are related to the resurrection. The resurrected person has the oil. The oil is the olive oil in the lampstand, symbolizing the Holy Spirit. Anyone who does not believe in resurrection while a believer is alive does not have the oil of the Holy Spirit.
The wise virgin told the foolish virgin to buy oil from the seller. The place where oil is sold refers to the temple. How can you buy oil in the temple? The temple in Jerusalem represents the law. Only those who find Christ in the law can buy oil. Those who believe that they died with Jesus and were resurrected with Christ can purchase oil (the Holy Spirit) for free. So, only those who are awake (the resurrected ones) can buy oil.
The five foolish virgins could not do business like this. This is because there is no Holy Spirit of truth. In order for the Holy Spirit of truth to come to believers, resurrection must be a prerequisite.
Those who do not believe in present resurrection are spiritually asleep. Believers must be awake. The Bible tells us to achieve resurrection while we are still alive. You must believe that you will die with Jesus and be resurrected with Christ. Only then can you enter the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is when a temple is built in the hearts of the saints and the Holy Spirit comes to the temple so that the saint and Christ become one.
