Question 54. How is Christ exalted in his sitting at the right hand of God?

Answer. Christ is exalted in his sitting at the right hand of God, in that, as God and man, he is highly favored with the Father, filled with joy and glory, and with power over all things in heaven and earth; in gathering and defending his church, subduing their enemies, and giving gifts and graces to his ministers and people, and in making intercession for them.

Ephesians 4:6-10 "For there is one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But to each of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore it is said, 'When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts to men.' When it is said, 'He ascended,' what does it mean but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is the same one who ascended far above all the heavens (ton uranon), that he might fill all things."

Christ ascended to heaven and united all things. Tone Uranon means the heavens. It means the kingdom of God in the hearts of the saints, and Christ enters the hearts of all the saints and fills all things. "Filling all things" means that the heavenly army and the earthly army become one. The heavenly army means the angels of the kingdom of God, and the earthly army means the evil angels who were cast into the world. Ultimately, they all become one. In Genesis 2:1, "The heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts (chava)". Chava means an army.

The purpose of all things becoming one is to establish the kingdom of God for all people in the world. For this purpose, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers were appointed.
