Question 55. How does Christ intercede for us?
Question 55. How does Christ intercede for us?
Answer. Christ's intercession for us is that he continually appears
before his Father in heaven, in the merits of his obedience and sacrifice which
he accomplished on earth in our human nature, and declares his will to apply
his merits to all believers; that is, he answers all charges and accusations
against them, gives them peace of conscience, despite their daily failings,
enables them to approach the throne of grace with confidence, and makes
themselves and their service acceptable.
Hebrews 7:25 "Therefore he is able to save completely those who
come to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession
(entyunkaneien) for them." Entyunkaneien means to mediate. Jesus Christ
mediates between sinners and God and brings reconciliation. Since entyunkaneien
is translated as to pray, it seems as if Jesus is always continuously praying
to God, which is a translation error. Therefore, since the verse says to pray,
people think that even when they commit worldly sins or make mistakes in life,
they can be forgiven because Jesus prays to God.
Those who are in Christ are seated in heaven, and since the identity of
the saint is to be seated in heaven, the fleshly self and the spiritual self
coexist in the human mind. Therefore, the identity of the saint who is seated
in heaven is the spiritual self. A spiritual war occurs. Therefore, Jesus
Christ sends the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to give us the strength to
overcome the fleshly self through the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
