Question 85. If the wages of sin is death, why are not the righteous
who have received forgiveness of sins in Christ saved from death?
Answer. The righteous will be saved from death at the last day, and
even though they die, they will be saved from the sting and curse of death.
Therefore, even though they die, God's love will completely free them from sin
and misery, and allow them to have deeper fellowship with Christ in the glory
they enter into after death.
Romans 6:23 "For
the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord." Here, death refers to the second death, which refers to the
judgment that those who do not believe in Jesus receive from God after their
physical death.
However, those who are in Christ have already been united with Jesus on
the cross and died, so they will receive an eternal body. However, the body
received from parents is not an eternal body, so it will definitely die. It can
be understood as shedding its skin, just like the process of insect metamorphosis.
Those who are in Christ, although they have a body, have a body of
eternal life. Saints are born again with a spiritual body, and are seated in
heaven. However, since the body is still alive, there may be confusion, but
believers who are not born again are still unable to escape from death.
However, saints do not attach importance to the death of the body.
The born-again saints are not saved from death on the last day, but
when they believe that they died on the cross with Jesus, they are united with
Jesus’ resurrection, and the saints are saved from the death of the second
death. Although the saints have a body, they are already dead to the world
through the second death. The reason God keeps the body of the saints is to
spread the gospel. Although they may fall due to the weakness of the flesh, God
promised that He would not judge them again by the law. Therefore, we must
remember that we are dead every day and devote ourselves to spreading the
gospel.
