Question 181. Why should we pray in the name of Christ?

Answer. Because of the sinfulness of man and the great distance that this has created between God and man, no one can approach God without a mediator. Since there is no one in heaven or earth appointed or fit for that glorious work but Christ alone, we cannot pray in any other name, but only in his name.

All prayers must be prayed to God through Jesus Christ. Otherwise, the result may be praying to a god of one's own choice. The name of Jesus is the channel that connects to God through Christ. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Jesus Christ is the mediator who acts as the lawyer and the judge. If one does not pray to Jesus Christ, there is no benefit of mediation and there is no escape from the law. If believers do not pray to Jesus Christ, they cannot solve the problem of sin, they cannot reach God, and they are only working in vain. If believers do not pray to Jesus Christ, there is no resurrection life. This is because Jesus is the resurrection life.
