Question
24: How is the Apostles' Creed divided?
Answer:
It is divided into three parts: God the Father and our creation, God the Son
and our salvation, and God the Holy Spirit and our sanctification.
The Apostles' Creed speaks
of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and tells us how
believers relate to each other within these three entities.
The saints confess that they believe in God, the Almighty, Creator of
heaven and earth, as their Father.
The saints confess that in Jesus Christ, “He was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and at His baptism He
was declared by God to be the only Son of God, passed the temptations of Satan,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; His spirit
descended into prison; on the third day He rose again from the dead and
appeared to men; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from that time on He will give the living to sit at
the right hand of God, and come to judge the dead,” and that
the saints also have become identical with Jesus Christ.
The Apostles' Creed confesses that, in the Holy
Spirit, the saints become a holy church, a community with other saints, and,
after receiving forgiveness of sins, are resurrected with a spiritual body and
granted eternal life.
Therefore, the core of the Apostles' Creed is
the confession that the saints are united in God the Father, Jesus Christ, and
the Holy Spirit.
