Question 43: What other benefit do we receive from Christ's sacrifice and death on the cross?

Answer: Our old self is crucified with Him, dead, and buried, so that the evil desires of the flesh no longer have dominion over us, but instead we offer ourselves as a sacrifice of thanksgiving.

Another benefit we receive from Christ's sacrifice and death on the cross is the forgiveness of sins and resurrection life.

First, through forgiveness, believers are freed from sin. They no longer need to worry about sin. Romans 8:1-2 says, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."

However, in the heart of a saint, the old self and the new self coexist, and the identity of a saint is the new self. The old self is dead, but the saint believes. Romans 7:21-23 "So I find it to be a law, that when I want to do good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inward being, but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members." The object of spiritual warfare is the fleshly self.

Second, we receive resurrection life. Romans 6:5 says, "For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his." When believers receive resurrection life, they are seated in heaven. They become the life of heaven.
