Question 23-24
Question 23: In what
sense do you think God is omnipotent?
Answer: This does not
simply mean that God has power but no longer uses it; rather, it means that God
holds all creatures in His hand and sovereignty, disposes of all things
according to His providence, governs the world according to His will, and
directs all that happens as He pleases.
The word omnipotent
has a variety of meanings. It means being able to do everything, but its
meaning can be expressed more specifically as follows:
First, God is the One
who creates something from nothing with His words.
Second, He is the God
of order. We can see that God plans everything and operates according to that
plan.
Third, He is eternal
life, without death. Therefore, He resurrected Jesus, who died on the cross.
All life is lived by the life given by God.
Fourth, He is not
bound by time and space. He exists equally in the past, present, and future.
Question 24: So, according to what you say, God's power is not
inactive, but rather increasingly active. Does this mean that God is always
active and that nothing happens without God's permission or command (both good
and bad)?
Answer: Yes.
John 12:49-50 “For I
have not spoken of my own accord, but the Father who sent me has commanded me
what to say and what to say. And I know that his commandment leads to eternal
life. Therefore whatever I say is just what the Father has told me.”
God worked through prophets in the Old Testament, works through
Jesus Christ, and works through the apostles in the New Testament.
God's will is to save all sinful humanity. Therefore, He sent
Jesus Christ to die as an atoning death and resurrected him. Those who unite
with Jesus Christ die with Him, are resurrected with Him, and attain salvation.
