2. Old man, new man

 2.  Old man, new man

In Romans 6:4-6, Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

The old man here refers to the first man, Adam. Christ was born into this world to give us a body of sin that must die. So, when Jesus, the last man, Adam, died on the cross, the promise to the first man was fulfilled. In Ephesians 4:22-24, That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, after which God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

And the new man means the resurrected Christ. In the Bible, it is also called the inner man. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, For which cause we faint not; But though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.1 Peter 3:21-22 says, The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh) , but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
