Question 21-22
[God the Father]
Question 21: Now, tell us the first part of the Apostles' Creed.
Answer: I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Latin: Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem,
English: I believe in God the Father Almighty.
The English translation is no different from
the English Apostles' Creed we use today.
Question 22: Why do you call God "Father"?
Answer: It is the name by which Jesus Christ
calls God (the Father). He is the eternal Word of God, begotten of God (the
Father) from all eternity. Then, when He appeared in the world, He was
acknowledged and known as the Son of God. From the fact that God is the Father
of Jesus Christ, it follows that God is also our Father.
Jesus Christ is both
the Son of Man and the Son of God. Jesus Christ died on the cross as a
substitute, bearing all the sins of the first man's sinful body as the Son of
Man, thus fulfilling what was planned before the foundation of the world. And
as the Son of God, He was resurrected, sits at the right hand of God, and
enters the hearts of the saints.
When the resurrected
Jesus Christ enters the hearts of believers, those believers are called
Christians. Therefore, since Jesus Christ calls God "Father,"
believers who enter into Jesus Christ can also call God "Father."
